Why People are Panic for My Rottweiler - Roxy Introduction I have a dog named Roxy, a Rottweiler by breed. I bred it when it was one month old. My son bought it from Dehradun on 16 August 2019. He trained it as per his knowledge and skill.  It was very small in size and cute in looking. So, every member of the family would take it in his/her lap while it preferred running on the floor and biting the wooden sofa. It growled when objected. Thus, it disfigured the corners of the sofa and chairs. My son arranged a bone toy for her and now, it engaged to chew the toy most of the time. When, it was one year old it dominated other dogs on the road. She was always ready to challenge and fight against them. Some times, it would run after the calves.  How to find Reputable Rottweiler Breeding Lines

Introduction

There are so many breeds of dogs globally found in every country. So far as the Rottweiler breed concerns, it too has vary in nature, temperament and habits. So, finding reputable Rottweiler breeding lines requires a thoughtful approach to ensure that the dogs are healthy, well-tempered, and bred ethically. Rottweilers are a strong, loyal, and intelligent breed of dog. They are known for their protective nature and often work as guard dogs, police dogs, and service dogs. However, Rottweilers also make wonderful family pets when they are provided well training, well-bred and properly looked after.

A healthy Rottweiler

In this article we w'll discuss, if you are thinking about getting a Rottweiler, one of the most important step is to make sure the dog comes from a reputable breeder with a good breeding line. This means that  the dog's parents, grand-parents, and other relatives have been carefully chosen for their health, temperament, and behaviour. Choosing the right breeder and body line can help you get a Rottweiler that is healthy, well-behaved, and suited for your home.

Here are some simple steps to help you find a reputable Rottweiler breeding line.

1- Research Kennel Clubs and Breed Registries

  • If you are interested in Rottweiler breeding, one of the first thing you should do to find out the breeding line of the dog.  A breeding line refers to the ancestry or family history of a dog.
  • In simple terms, it's the background of the dog's parents, grandparents, and other ancestors. Just like with people, the family history of a dog can tell you a lot about its health, behaviour, and physical traits.
  • American Kennel Club(AKC) and The Federation Cynologique Internationale (FCI) are two leading Kennel clubs with strict standards for breeders. Look for breeders who register their dogs with these organisations.
  • Rottweiler breed clubs such as the American Rottweiler Club (ARC), Rottweiler Club of Canada (RCC) and Rottweiler breeding in United Kingdom. are the main breeding clubs who maintain the records of  dogs and can be great source of information.
2-  Look for Titles and Certifications

  • Reputable  breeders often participate in dog shows, trials or competitions to prove their dog's quality in terms of temperament, confirmation, and working ability.
  • Look for dogs in the breeding line with titles like Schutzhund (IPO / IGP), AKC Champion (CH), Working Dog Titles, etc. These certifications show that the breeder is committed to producing dogs with proven skills and good character.
3- Examine Health Testing
Puppies in the cage

  • A reputable breeder will have their breeding dogs tested for common health issues in Rottweilers, such as hip and elbow dysplasia, heart conditions (e.g. aortic stenosis), and eye issues.
  • Ensure the breeder provides documentation from the Orthopaedic Foundation for Animals (OFA) or similar bodies to prove the dogs are free from hereditary health issues.
  • Ask the breeder if they do health tests on their breeding dogs.. A reputable breeder will be happy to show you certificate from health organisation
4-Visit the Breeder in Person

If possible, its always a good idea to visit the breeder in person. A reputable breeder will welcome you to visit their facilities and meet the dogs. This visit will give you a chance  to see how the dogs are treated  and if they are well cared for.
When visiting the breeder, look for the following signs of a responsible operation:
  • Clean and well-maintained facilities: The dogs should live in a clean environment with plenty of space to move around.
  • Healthy and happy dogs; The should look healthy, well- fed, and social. Pay attention to their behaviour.  Are they friendly and calm? Well-bred Rottweilers should not be overly aggressive or shy.
  • Willingness to answer questions: A good breeder will happy to answer your questions about the dog's health, pedigree, and breeding practices. They should also ask you questions about your experience with dogs and why you want to own a Rottweiler.
5- Ask for References
A responsible breeder will have a good reputation among people who have bought their dogs. Don't be afraid to ask for references. You can ask the breeder to provide contact information for people who have bought puppies from them before.

When you contact these people, ask about their experience with the breeder. Did they have a positive experience? Was their puppy healthy and well behaved? A good breeder will have many happy customers who are willing to recommend them.
6- Avoid Puppy Mills and Backyard Breeders
Avoid puppy mills and backyard breeders

Unfortunately, there are many unethical breeders who are only interested in making money. These breeders often run puppy mills or are backyard breeders. They don't care about the health or temperament of their dogs and may breed too many puppies at once in poor conditions.
I highlight some warning signs of a bad breeder:
  • They offer puppies at a very low price,
  • They don't provide health tests or pedigrees for their dogs.
  • They breed many different dog breeds at the same time.
  • They won't let you visit their facility or meet the dogs in person.
Avoid these types of breeders at all costs. Buying a puppy from them can lead  to health problems and behavioural issues in the future.

7- Stay Patient and Be Prepared to Wait

Reputable breeders often have  waiting list for their puppies. They don't breed dogs frequently because they care about the health  and well-being of their dogs. This means that you may need to wait several months or even a year before you can bring a puppy home.

While it might be tempting to buy a puppy right away, it's better to be patient and wait for a dog from a good breeder. A healthy, well-bred Rottweiler will bring you years of companionship and joy, so, it's worth the wait.

 Conclusion

Finding a reputable  Rottweiler breeding line takes time and effort, but it's an important step if you want a healthy and happy dog. Start by researching kennel clubs and breed organisations, then look for breeders who do health testing and have strong pedigrees. Visiting the breeder in person and asking for references can also help you make the right decision.

Remember, a Rottweiler is a big responsibility, and choosing the right breeder will give you the best  chance of owning a dog that fits your family and lifestyle. By following these steps, you can find a reputable breeder and a strong breeding line, ensuring that your Rottweiler will be a loyal companion for years to come.
