  Why People are Panic for My Rottweiler - Roxy Introduction I have a dog named Roxy, a Rottweiler by breed. I bred it when it was one month old. My son bought it from Dehradun on 16 August 2019. He trained it as per his knowledge and skill.  It was very small in size and cute in looking. So, every member of the family would take it in his/her lap while it preferred running on the floor and biting the wooden sofa. It growled when objected. Introduction:

The high-altitude Himalayan belt assimilates a number of Bugyals and Glaciers. The world Bugyal translates to a vast expansion of green land, situated at a high altitude in the mountains. The Ali Bedni bugyal in Uttarakhand is one of the most beautiful alpine meadows. It is situated at the border of Garhwal and Kumaon in Chamoli district in Uttarakhand (India). The Ali Bedni Bugyal along with being two of the largest high-altitude alpine meadows of Asia is also a halt point for the Nand Devi Raj Jat Yatra, which is a pilgrimage that is organized every 12 years in the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand.

1- Nanda Devi Raj Jat Yatra:

  • The Nanda Devi Raj Jat Yatra is one of the most important religious events in Uttarakhand. Thousand of Devotees participate in this traditional pilgrimage.
  • In 2014, the devotees were in highest numbers.it starts from Garhwal and the yatra from Almora, Bageshwar, Pithoragarh, Champawat, Nainital join it at Nand Keshri, a small town at the bank of Pindar River.
  • The Yatra proceeds from the different points already fixed traditionally and via Van village, Gailapatal, Bedni Bugyal, Paternachoni, Kalua Vinayak Bhaguabasa, Roopkund, Juragali, Shilasamundra and Homekund, the last destination of the Yatra
  • The Yatra is dedicated to the goddess Nanda Devi, who is revered as the protector of the region.The Yatra returns from Homkund via RontiSaddle descending through the Trishul Nala valley, Chandaniya ghat,Latakhopari to Sutol Village,the last point.From Sutol, pilgrims make their way back to their respective destinations.

  • According to local legends,  Bedni Bugyal is the place where goddess Nanda Devi rests on her journey to her maternal home. The Bedni Kund, a small sacred lake in the meadow, is believed to be blessed by the goddess.

Planning of Trekking and Conveyance

The journey to Bedni Bugyal typically starts from Lohajung, a small village in the Chamoli district.Here's how you can reach Lohajung from Delhi, Lucknow, Kolkatta, Bangloru, Mumbai or any part of India and abroad.

1- By Air:

  • The nearest Airport is Jolly Grant Airport in Dehradun, the capital of Uttarakhand state. It is well connected to major cities in India. From the Airport, you can hire a taxi or take a bus to Karnprayag. and then Lohajang, which is 304 km away from Dehradun.
By Train:

  • The nearest railway stations are Kathgodam, Tanakpur, and Rishikesh. All are well-connected to major cities in India. From Kathgodam and Rishikesh you can hire a taxi directly to Lohajung. The Bus facilities is confined to Karnprayag easily. Then hire a taxi or enjoy the sharing jeep taxi or local conveyance.
By Road:

  • Lohajung is a tourist spot in itself. It has a road facility. Lohajung is connected from major towns in Uttarakhand. Regular Buses and taxis are available  from Dehradun, Rishikesh, Kathgodam and Tanakpur.
The Trekking Time Table

Day-1 Lohajung to Didna Village

  • Distance: 9 km
  • Time Taken: 5-6 hours
  • Elevation: 2450 meters
The trek starts from Lohajung to Didna village with a gradual climb.The trail goes through dense forests of oak, and rhododendron, offering glimpses of the local flora and fauna. Didna village is a small old structured village with simplicity, provides a perfect opportunity to experience the traditional lifestyle and hospitality of the Himalayan communities.

Day-2: Didna Village to Ali Bugyal
  • Distance:       10 km
  • Time Taken:   7 hours
  • Elevation:       3400 meters

As you ascend, the landscape transforms into vast alpine meadows, with the megistic peaks of Trishul and Nanda Ghunti forming a stunning backdrop. Day3: Ali Bugyal to Bedni Bugyal
  • Distance:       5 km
  • Time Taken:   2-3 hours
  • Elevation:       3,354 meters
The trek from Ali Bugyal to Bedni Bugyal is relatively short and easy , offering you to enjoy the beauty of the surroundings. The Bedni Bugyal and Ali Bugyal are although different by names but treated as one Ali-Bedni Bugyal, as both are quite near to each other and at the same elevation. Bedni Bugyal is a vast meadow dotted with wildflowers and offering unobstructed views of the towering Himalayan peaks. The serene environment and the presence of the sacred Bedni kund make it a perfect spot for relaxation and reflection.

Day4: Bedni Bugyal to Wan Village

The fourth day of the trek leads to another route to Wan from Bedni Bugyal in the next morning pitching off our tents. The route involves a descent from Bedni Bugyal passing through the Gaila Patal, the lush green forest, As, you keep walking, the tree lines appear and a sharp descent would commence at the end of the meadow. The lush green forests consist of oak and rhododendron trees. As you keep descending further, you soon reach a clearing, signalling, that you have to descent a steep ridge  that leads you to the Neel Ganga River. The cool waves of the river will wash away all your exhaustion and leave your feeling refreshed. After a short climb from the river , you will reach the ridge known as "Run ki Chhore." that overlooks Wan Village for overnight rest.The route offers a mix of forest paths, meadow crossings, and village trails providing a glimpse into the rural life of the region.

Day-5: Wan Village to Home Destination via Lohajung

Wan Village is the last check point of our Ali Bedni Bugyal trek expedition. After, walking down a steep descent, we reach the road side area where we board a vehicle and drive to Lohajung. The trek concludes at Lohajung where you can relax and celebrate the successful completion of your journey. Since, the treks in Himalayan region  come with their ups and downs, we always keep a buffer day in hand to make sure the trek goes smooth.  Again, the road journey repeats the same route to next station, as per your scheduled programme.

Preparations for the Trekking with Essentials:

1- Physical fitness:

  • while the trek to Ali Bedni Bugyal is considered moderate, it's essential to be in good physical condition. Regular morning walk, jogging, breathing exercise, cardiovascular exercise, strength training, and stamina- gaining activities are recommended at least for three months before the trek.
2- Packing materials:

  • Clothing: Layered clothing to accommodate varying temperature, including thermal wear, waterproof fleece jackets, and comfortable trekking lowers.
  • Footwear: Sturdy trekking boots with good grip and ankle support
  • Camping Gear: Tent, sleeping bag, sleeping mat, light arrangements
  • Personal Items: First-aid kit, water bottles, trekking poles, sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat. 
  • Food and Snacks: High-energy snacks, dry fruits, and ready to eat meals.
3- Permits and Documentation:

  • Ensure you have the necessary permits and documentation before embarking the trek.
  • The permits are issued by the forest department and Documents are also referred to Tourism department.
4- Acclimatization:

  • When you go from lower altitude to higher altitude you need to stay in Lohajung, or Ban Village, or Didna Village to acclimatize to the altitude and avoid acute  mountain sickness.
  • Drink sufficient water and liquid food
  • Stay hydrated and avoid strenuous activities during the initial days.
Be Sincere to Environment

  • Leave no trace in Himalayas. Trekking in the Bugyals comes with the responsibility of preserving its pristine environment.
  •  Follow the rules and regulations given by you in written before Permission, which includes:

1- Waste Management

  • Leave no trace, carry all non-biodegradable waste back to Wan Village,or Lohajung for proper disposal.
  •  Avoid using single-use plastics.
2- Respect Wildlife:

  • Never tease wildlife. Maintain a safe distance from wildlife and avoid disturbing their natural habitat.
  • Do not feed animals or birds.
3- Avoid Campfires:

  • Avoid making Campfires as it may cause forest fires.
  • Use portable stoves for cooking.
  • Mostly use dry fruits or ready to use meal.
4- Respect the Local Culture and Tradition:

  • Always follow the marked trails, Don't make experiments in snow areas, The treks are invisible.
  • Avoid damaging the fragile alpine ecosystem.
  • Respect the local culture and traditions.
